IS NOTHING sacred anymore?
Following the stealing, destruction or whatever it is we should be calling it of the Lone Pine tree last week, residents have reacted with anger and disappointment.
Who would do such a thing and why?
The Lone Pine tree was planted in the Rotary Peace Park on Anzac Eve a mere two months ago and already someone has felt the need to pull it out.
It was a deliberate effort whatever way you look at it.
This person (or persons) have had to reach through a protective cage to rip it out.
It is unacceptable and the community has made it’s feelings known after a image of the spot where the tree once was was posted on The Irrigator’s Facebook page last Thursday.
The post has spread across the shire and the region.
It has been shared hundreds of times, with most comments labelling the act as outrageous and unacceptable.
Surely, a simple tree should be protected.
It’s small symbol to thank those that served our country.
How disrespectful it is to destroy that.
I doubt the culprit will ever be found.
However, I do hope that he or she is aware of the outrage their actions have prompted and will thank twice before ever doing something like this again.
Our fallen, past and current armed servicemen and women deserve better.
