The roundabout has been installed at the intersection of Petersham Road and Almond Road,
It is part of stage five of the wider Petersham Road project.
The final installation of the concrete roundabout took place last week and the final road reconstruction will happen this week.
Leeton Shire Council manager of design and construction, Chris Lashbrook was pleased to see the work progressing.
”The concrete annulus of the roundabout (was completed last week),” he said.
“Unfortunately, some delays have occurred due to wet weather.
“The temporary roundabout has worked well in educating drivers of the forthcoming permanent installation.
“We plan to complete the road resurfacing in the area (this) week, weather permitting.”
Mr Lashbrook said there was more work for the area planned.
”This will complete the roundabout and intersection works in the Petersham Road area for this financial year,” he said.
“Some channel works will continue in the area of Almond Road to the east of Petersham Road with minimal delays.”
The installation of the roundabout has been undertaken as part of road safety issues and the long-awaited council upgrade of the area.
Council will now undertake a traffic study to review how new traffic facilities impact on road safety in the area.
The work as part of the entire project is expected to cost $1.5 million, with $1 million funded as part of a loan initiative that aids councils in clearing a backlog of infrastructure projects.
The aim of the roundabout was to provide a safer area for both pedestrians and motorists, but to also slow down drivers in the area.
A similar method was employed at the intersection of Petersham Road and Corbie Hill Road where council installed "blisters" to ensure vehicles slow down when approaching that area. Other work has included kerb and gutter construction and revamping Almond Road.
