Cassandra Wilson and Jody Smith will have their heads shaved as part of fund-raising for their Relay for Life team.
Relay for Life will be held in Leeton in March next year, with the pair getting in early to start bringing in the funds.
“We’ve been wanting to get our fund-raising started for a long time, so as soon as the website for Leeton was up we were onto it,” Miss Wilson said.
“We thought this would be a good way for all of the community to be involved because they are donating and we are doing something in return.
“I don’t think we’re too nervous about it.
“It’s winter, so we’ll just wear beanies all of the time and it will grow back pretty fast.”
Relay for Life returns to Leeton after a six-year hiatus, with community members jumping on board to help out.
Both Miss Wilson and Miss Smith are part of the organising committee and urged residents still wanting to join to do so.
“We’ve got another meeting at the end of this month, so anyone is welcome to come along,” Miss Wilson said.
“I think the reason we are all taking part is because we all know someone that has been affected by cancer.
“Whether it’s a relative, someone we work with or a friend … we’ve all had to deal with it somehow.
“That’s why we wanted to take part.”
Relay for Life will raise vital money for the Cancer Council, with Leeton teams encouraged to sign up now and start fund-raising.
“It’s going to be a really great event,” Miss Wilson said.
“Everyone is already really looking forward to it.”
In the meantime, the pair will continue to find new ways to raise money for their team, with various events in the pipeline.
However, first they will need to face the clippers at Jarrah Mall on July 18 at 10.30am.
“We just want to raise as much as we possibly can,” Miss Smith said.
Residents can donate at various tins in businesses in Leeton, Griffith and Narrandera, on the day or online at www.gofundme.com/xa8ju4.
