Leeton showground was alive with supporters of the top two teams in the Riverina Football League competition.
The Crows came from behind in a nail-biting, cat-and-mouse game, when Dan Delaney kicked the winning goal as the final siren sounded, handing the Crows a two-point victory.
The winning kick was met with a thrilled roar from the crowd as well as a win on the scoreboard.
Leeton-Whitton were down by four points in the dying minutes of the last quarter, but after Delaney’s winning kick the Crows took home the victory.
The final score was 15.8 (98) to 16.6 (96).
In the first-quarter the Crows scored the first two goals.
MCUE hit back with four quick goals, coupled through some defensive errors by Leeton-Whitton.
The quarter ended with a score of MCUE 5.0 (30) leading over Leeton-Whitton 2.4 (16).
The second-quarter was a strong start for the Crows, although the first goal went to MCUE, who went on to dominate the quarter.
At the end of the second-quarter a score of 8.5 (53) for MCUE over the Crows 8.4 (52) left the crowd on the edge of their seats.
Leeton-Whitton were turning the ball over, having missed some kicks and hand passes. MCUE were peppering goals and with some late goals by the Crows, Leeton-Whitton trailed by a point.
The third-quarter was a tight start, with the Crows dominating possession, but no return.
Seven minutes into the quarter Leeton-Whitton took the lead by a goal.
That was quickly taken away by MCUE in the 19th minute and the Crows responded immediately.
The fourth-quarter started with four consecutive goals by MCUE giving them a 10-point lead before two late goals from the Crows stole the show.
Coach David Meline described the match as "nice and close".
He said he had been expecting a tough match going up against the ladder leaders.
"It could have gone either way," Meline said.
"Credit to the guys to hang in there.
"Dan Delaney had a near miss late in the fourth quarter, but had the composure to come back and kick, winning the game."
"It was a cracker of a game. To be honest, we were lucky to be that close to them at half-time.
“They played really well and we struggled to contain their spread.
“It was encouraging to be that close because we weren’t playing fantastic.
“They were better in the first-half, we had a good third and quarter then the last-quarter was goal-for-goal.”
Goals for Leeton-Whitton were scored by Neil Irwin 3, Bryce O’Garey 2, Cam Griggs 2, Delaney 2, Tom Meline, Ben Curley, Lucas Meline, Toby Conroy, Dan Evans, K O’Malley and Michael Wescombe.
Best players were Conroy, L Meline, J Lehman, Mitch Hardie, Curley and Delaney.
This weekend the Crows will continue to chase an outright position on top of the ladder, when they meet with Ganmain at Leeton Showground.
"Ganmain (will be) another good contest," Meline said.
"They have a couple of good key forwards.
"MCUE are more of a running side, Ganmain are more big bodies, so it will be a different sort of game."
