It is a voice for businesses, but also an organisation that has the wants and needs of its members at the forefront.
An annual general meeting for the chamber was held on Monday night, but the positions of president and vice president failed to be filled.
Outgoing president Maryann Vitelli has decided to step down from the role to concentrate on other pursuits.
If those positions are not filled at the next meeting, the shire runs the risk of losing the chamber.
This could have many consequences for the town and for businesses.
I would urge residents thinking about putting up their hand to be on the executive to do so now.
Even those thinking about becoming a member should make their intentions known as many hands make light work.
Understandably, everyone has their own interests and commitments.
However, it is essential our shire still has its chamber to go to.
Over the past few years the chamber has seemed to shake off the once negative connotations it had surrounding it.
It would be a shame for all of that hard work to now be undone.
It is so important our shire doesn’t lose this valuable resource.
