The Whitton/Murrami Public School held a day of activities to celebrate NAIDOC Week and were joined by students from Wamoon and Yanco public schools.
It is the third time the event has been held as part of the small schools working together to provide new opportunities for their students.
The NAIDOC-themed day is held as part of Education Week, with activities this year including Indigenous games conducted by representatives from the Griffith Aboriginal Medical Service.
There were also Dreamtime stories, dance and language teachings and helping students to understand the Aboriginal culture. Other activities included Johnny-cake making, boomerang, rock and face painting.
Whitton/Murrami principal Duncan Adams thanked teacher Kate Greatz for organising the event.
"We've been hosting the day for all the Leeton Small Schools for three years now to help educate students about Aboriginal culture," he said.
"It's important that all students learn about the history and significance of Reconcilation Week and NAIDOC Day.
"The students have all been learning in their classrooms about the week and why it is so important.
"Our upper primary classes definitely have a proficient understanding of the week and its significance. Events such as this one for NAIDOC Day are integral to ongoing community cohesion.”
NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July.
Mr Adams said it was an ideal opportunity for the small schools to participate in the event as a group.
"It's another opportunity, apart from sporting events like PSSA representation, for the students of small schools to come together,” he said.
"It's an opportunity for all of the small schools to contextualise their learning and understanding of the Aboriginal culture.
"The students really thrive on days like today. We've also have had significant parental, and community support from Yanco, Wamoon, Murrami and Whitton (on Friday).”
