Property owners Sam and Lucy Trinca were thrilled with results on their property within the Silver Pines wetland complex, part of the Yanco Creek system.
Mr Trinca said the environmental watering event had managed to connect the Yanco Creek from north to south through a system of flood runners on their property.
“We are very pleased and excited with the water levels and flow,” he said. “We think it sets a wonderful benchmark for future events.”
The NSW Office of Environment and Heritage is contributing up to 10,000 megalitres of environmental water while the Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder has committed up to 20,000 megalitres.
Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder David Papps said the flow would benefit the whole Yanco Creek system.
“It is early days but we are expecting to achieve some great outcomes,” Mr Papps said. “It is a real pleasure to work with such a supportive group of landholders.”
A series of “freshes” or pulses of water were diverted into Yanco Creek over the course of a month.
The project is a collaborative effort between landholders and a number of different stakeholders.
