Member for Riverina Michael McCormack has been appointed as the new Assistant Minister to the Deputy Prime Minister, which will see him tasked with managing important projects within the infrastructure and regional development portfolios.
“That puts me right at the table to discuss the big infrastructure roll-out the government is doing and places me right at the heart of building a better regional Australia,” he said.
Mr McCormack will be responsible for overseeing the $1 billion National Stronger Regions Fund, the roads Black Spot Program and the Stronger Communities Program.
Young-based Nationals Senator Fiona Nash has been appointed the Minister for Rural Health, indicating the new government may place a specific focus on the health issues facing regional areas.
