The building in question is the former Water Conservation and Irrigation Commission (WCIC) facility in Chelmsford Place.
Its employees no doubt helped to shape Leeton shire and the wider MIA in its hey day, as well as more recently.
The building is also significant for its look and impact on the wider area.
It is an art deco building that stands magnificently opposite another heritage building – the Historic Hydro Motor Inn.
In a twist of bringing the old and new together, the building will be part of an online auction this month.
One would hope that firstly the building is sold and will once more be occupied by employees and thriving again.
Secondly, it is also hoped the look and feel of the building will be maintained.
The outside of the building cannot be changed.
It would be a shame to see this property go begging at auction.
It is a major part of Leeton shire’s history and no doubt those that formally worked there have plenty of memories and stories to share.
I think it would be fantastic for a new generation to come in and have another impact on the way Leeton shire is shaped moving forward in to the future just as it did in its “hey day”.
