This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Leeton Show and there is plenty happening from this afternoon right through until Sunday to celebrate.
From this afternoon residents can head down to the Leeton Showground and get their fix of rides, entertainment, fireworks and more.
This year’s Leeton Showgirl winner will be announced prior to the fireworks display, which will take place right on dark and promises to be “the best yet”.
The Leeton Show has a long history and this will be celebrated throughout the weekend, according to Leeton Show Society secretary Paula Fields.
“Everything is all set to go … it’s going to be a massive weekend,” she said.
“This year we’ve got so much happening as part of the 100 years, but also to make it a memorable experience for everyone that comes along.
“There will be something for everyone no matter what you’re interested in. Hopefully this year we will get a good cross-section of people there.”
Highlights this year include a motorbike show, battle of the bands on Saturday night, a camp oven cook-off, farmers challenge, big day out for pets, ring events and the usual pavilion displays and sideshow alley. There will also be pig races, a reptile show and children’s cooking club.
Mrs Fields said the show had a unique way of bringing the community together.
“I think it is something that appeals to everyone,” she said. “This year we are holding the show on Sunday as well. There will be no charge for the Sunday to get in.
“We’ll be wrapping up the horse events and there will be still plenty happening, but there won’t be any sideshow rides.”
Mrs Fields said it was important for the event to be supported.
“We’re really hoping for a big crowd and not just because it’s the 100 years,” she said.
Mrs Fields also reminded residents that while it may seem expensive to enter the show, once inside the gates there were many free activities. For more information visit the Leeton Show Society’s Facebook page.
