IT WAS great to see the skies of Leeton abuzz with aircraft late last week.

Brobenah airfield hosted various planes for a couple of days of flying, which in turn brought visitors to town.
The airfield is literally a hidden gem in our shire.
The location is well-known among “flying” circles and continues to attract many different pilots and their aircraft.
The one thing the airfield doesn’t have is a bitumen runway.
Could it be time for an upgrade?
One would say yes it is.
Another argument might be that we already have the Narrandera-Leeton Airport, so why does the Brobenah airfield need to be tarred?
Regardless of the Narrandera-Leeton facility, I think it would be a good idea for this rural setting to have its own bitumen runway.
It would certainly help to attract more planes, their pilots and passengers.
This is turn would mean these people are visiting our town, spending their money here and then, hopefully, returning home and spreading the word about how great our shire really is.
The question remains who should pay for this?
It is one to ponder.
Perhaps it could be some sort of community fund-raiser.
I’m sure there are many options that could be considered.
