The visit was part of a tour of the Riverina by Ms Spratt, which was made possible by another author – James Patterson – who donated $100,000 to Australia bookshops to help encourage more children to become interested in reading.
As part of her trip to town, Ms Spratt visited Leeton Public School where students from Whitton-Murrami Public School and Wamoon Public School were also given the opportunity to hear and learn from her.
She also visited Parkview Public School and St Joseph’s Primary School.
As part of each session with students, Ms Spratt read extracts from her books, answered questions about her writing process and gave an insight into her career.
Children found it hard to wipe the smiles off their faces when, particularly when Ms Spratt was reading about the antics of Nanny Piggins and Friday Barnes.
Ms Spratt has written for a variety of television shows, including Good News Week and children’s animation series Guess How Much I Love You.
She has specialized in children’s animation, but has had experience writing jokes, sketch comedy and political satire. Ms Spratt lives in Bowral with her family and enjoys talking to students to inspire them to read and write their own masterpieces.
