Emergency services rushed to Rankins Springs, north of Griffith, to attend to the blaze around 15 kilometres east of the town.
It is understood a B-double caught fire on the highway near Taleeban Road.
Motorists were earlier urged to avoid travelling via the highway in the Rankins Springs area, with traffic already there stopped and parked either side of the fire site.
Stop/slow conditions were put into place around 9.15am, with motorists advised they could pass the scene with care.
Emergency crews are still on site, working to clear the area.
