Some members of the community have voiced concerns following the departure of some tourism staff and the secondment of visitor services co-ordinator (Leeton Tourism manager) Brent Lawrence as council’s new communications co-ordinator.
There are currently vacancies at the Roxy Theatre and the Visitor Information Centre (VIC).
Council general manager Jackie Kruger said all areas of council were currently being reviewed with an eye on efficiencies as part of the Fit for the Future process.
“A different staff mix for the VIC is being trialled with no reduction in service levels to date,” Mrs Kruger said.
“Council has received no complaints since this trial has commenced.”
Mrs Kruger said the vacancies wasn’t affecting tourism in Leeton.
“For the period November to end January this year, 973 visitors used the VIC,” she said.
“This is a slight increase of 31 visitors compared to the same period the previous year where the VIC had 942 visitors.
“Before vacated positions are refilled, they are subject to review in order to ensure efficiencies and effectiveness going forward.
“At this stage council may not replace the trainee (at the VIC).”
The Roxy Theatre position is being advertised.
Mrs Kruger wasn’t aware of any concerns within the community relating to the recent staff movements.
“Council is not aware of any complaints or concerns from the community and continues to deliver expected levels of service,” she said.
“If there was to be any significant change to how services are delivered, this will be the subject of a formal community consultation.
“Leeton’s major events will not be impacted as staff continue to work in conjunction with committee volunteers to ensure that events will be successful and well supported.”
The LVIC was also closed last week while renovation work was undertaken.
The work included re-lining of internal walls in the main hallway entrance and serving areas. Volunteers have also been continuing to help man the LVIC.
“Council openly welcomes volunteers and the LVIC has been a strong advocate and champion with their volunteer program, which has been very successful,” Mrs Kruger said.
