Each year KartOz Magazine compiles and ranks the top drivers from across the country.
This year the publication ranked Whitty as being number 18 out of 2206 from across Australia.
The news follows on from a successful 2015 season for Whitty, highlighted by winning two classes of the prestigious Southern Stars series.
Whitty spent much of last season travelling near and far to compete in races.
He said that all helped to give him the number 18 ranking.
“It was a very big surprise,” Whitty said.
“The last two years I’ve been sitting at about number 130.
“So when the rankings came out in the magazine I started in about that area looking for my name.
“I was expecting it to be about the same.
“When I couldn’t find it, I started looking a bit closer. When I finally found my name I was pretty shocked.
“I know I had a pretty big season, but it was still surprising.
“It’s pretty cool.”
The ranking is determined using a computerised system of proportionally awarding points based on where a driver placed, the size of the class and the prestige of the events.
Whitty will be starting university next week in Wagga where he will be studying radiography.
He was hopeful of getting more race meets under his belt this year.
“I think it will be a bit easier being closer to home, but it will depend on my studies,” Whitty said.
“I definitely want to keep going with it for sure.
“I still love it and enjoy every race I do.”
