Media of all types plays a big part in this.
All one has to do is open up their social media account and instantly there will be posts and advertisements on losing weight to become your “ideal self”, news articles about how to impress someone of the opposite sex and advertisements on seeking out a new career.
It’s all a bit stressful.
However, the biggest concern isn’t a new one.
It’s how the media presents the idea of a “perfect” man or woman.
This is something young people, particularly teenagers, grasp hold of quickly and it can be dangerous.
While there are good role models out there, it’s obvious that teenagers are tech-savvy and can be googling or researching anything they like.
There are many disturbing sites out there that encourage young girls to be the “best version of themselves”, which is all well and good, but we know how easily influenced the young mind can be.
This sort of chatter can lead to serious self-esteem issues.
There also seems to be no real solution either, except of course common sense and taking everything you see, hear and read with a grain of salt.
