This year 20 young ladies and their partners will be making their debut into society at the event, which is a significant jump on last year’s numbers.
“It’s up by nine this year,” event organiser Tara Bowe said.
“I think it’s just a big year because it can change each time.
“I do think sometimes there is more interest, so we’re glad to have such a big group this time.”
The Scottish Debutante Ball isn’t just about the usual presentation of the ladies to society.
There are many traditions that make up the night, including the dancing of Strip the Willow, eating haggis, highland dancing and more.
One debutante taking part this year is Leeton High School year 12 student Hannah Boardman, who will be partnered by Zachary Hanlon.
“I chose to do the deb in order to follow community tradition,” Hannah said.
“I love the idea of the formal event to present women into society and I wanted to be a part of that. I am most excited about doing the dances on the night and having the opportunity to celebrate with my family and friends.
“I do believe that the tradition is still important to Leeton as it gives young women the opportunity to be presented into society in a formal manner.”
With the number of debutantes taking part in 2016, Mrs Bowe was expecting big crowd numbers.
“Hopefully we do get a lot of people there,” she said. “It’s always a great night and everyone enjoys it.”
While final planning is well under way, any residents wanting to lend a hand should get in touch with Mrs Bowe.
“Everything is going well, but we definitely welcome any help too,” she said. This year we’ve got a former deb (Grace Green) helping out.
“She made her debut last year and is having a gap year and wanted to help out.” The event will be held on May 20 at the Leeton Soldiers Club.
