Lake will be playing a one-off match for the Crows after signing on for the game earlier this year.
The appearance could have been cancelled if Lake decided to come out of retirement.
“I was approached to make a return and play for Essendon,” Lake said.
“I really had only just retired.
“I did think about it, but in the end I decided to stick with my decision.”
Lake was a triple-premiership player at Hawthorn and decided to retire following last year’s grand final win against West Coast.
However, he has still been keeping a close eye on his former team.
“I went to the first game on Easter Monday against Geelong at the ‘G,” he said.
“Driving there it almost felt like I was heading there to play.
“There was a moment where I did feel like I was missing out because I wasn’t out there, but I’m happy.”
Lake has been playing football for Caroline Springs, but was eager to see what was in store when he strapped on the boots for Leeton-Whitton.
He will also be speaking after the match on Saturday at a function at the Mia Club. Doors open 7pm and tickets are $25 for adults.
