Bryce O'Garey will make his return to the Leeton Whitton Crows this week against Coolamon after missing the first five rounds of this season.
Crows coach Jade Hodge said it would be a huge boost for the team.
“He’s obviously a massive bonus for us, especially because we’ve got a few guys most likely out for the game,” he said.
The return comes as the Crows are a bit down on match practice.
Due to the representative round happening the week after their bye, the Crows haven’t hit the field competitively since May 7.
Hodge said that shouldn’t be a problem.
“Ideally we wouldn't have wanted the two weeks off, but it’s given us a chance to work on structure and pinpoint a few errors in our game that we can work on,” he said.
“There’s been a bit more information overload sessions but we’ve also put in a lot of work on the field because we don’t want to fall behind the eight ball.”
Hodge didn’t know a lot about the Coolamon side they’re up against, only that it will be a tough road trip.
“I know they're young and keen,” he said.
“I’ve been trying to feed off the guys who've been around for a couple years information wise.
“No matter what side they put on the park, they’ll give it a good crack.”
He said the team couldn’t remember the last time they’d claimed an away victory at Coolamon.
With some rain about, it’s anyone’s game.
“We’re a side that can adapt,” Hodge said.
“We do like to use our running game but we’ve got a few bigger bodies to put in the contest as well.”
Not all the Crows are without match fitness.
Four of their players (Josh Grant, Mitch Hardie, James Nancarrow and Luke Potter) all played in the Riverina representative side last weekend. Hodge thinks this experience will be a boost for the team.
“Just chatting to the guys, they really enjoyed it,” he said.
“It gives them a chance to know everyone around the area.”
The match will be played on Saturday at Kindra Park starting at 2.10pm.
