The teams finished deadlocked at 28 apiece after a back and forth game saw the lead change hands several times. There were some ominous signs right from the kickoff for the Hawks as they blasted it the opener out on the full to gift the Roosters early field position. 

This proved costly as Roosters dummy-half Clinton Green barged his way over from close range for the game’s opening try.

Not to be outdone by his opposite number, Glenn Dumbrell soon levelled things up.

He scooted from dummy-half from the halfway line and showed blistering speed as he broke through the Roosters line on his way for the score.

Teams went back and forth once more with the scores level as half-time approached. Despite some early turnovers it was the Hawks who went into the break ahead.

Taina Heke showed some fancy footwork to find himself on the scoresheet.

The kick from out wide was missed and they went into the sheds 16-12 up.

Despite coming out of the sheds a man down due to a late sin binning, DPC was first to crack the try line in the second half as Robbie Simpson barged his way over from close range.

Just 10 minutes later and in almost identical circumstances, Simpson was over again. With Josh Veivers missing his first kick of the day, the Roosters led 22-16.

Errors off the kickoff for the Roosters handed the Hawks a golden opportunity to strike back immediately.

They did just that and the scores were once again level.

Heke soon scored his second of the day to put the Hawks up by six and with eight minutes to play, Jarrod Muller-Dobe had a chance to all but seal the game with a field goal attempt from right in front. He sprayed it right and this would cost them as the Roosters soon scored in the corner. With the conversion successful, the scores were locked at 28, which is how they would remain.
