Trevor O’Brien – Mature Australia Party
“I would like to return water to irrigation farmers,” Mr O’Brien said. “A lower dollar would increase the value of export income.”
Mr O’Brien said he also wanted country areas to have satellite NBN connections.
Dr Amanda Cohn – The Greens
“There is no future for agriculture in Farrer without water,” Ms Cohn said.
“The Murray Darling Basin Plan (MDBP), in its current form, simply hadn’t worked.”
Ms Cohn wants an audit of the MDBP with farmers’ consultation.
Sussan Ley – Liberal Party
“The MDBP is the single biggest issue facing our region,” Ms Ley said.
Ms Ley said communities needed to have their voices heard and understood, which included the effects of productive water being removed.
Ms Ley also called for a ‘full audit’ of the effectiveness of the environmental watering plan.
Brian Mills – independent
“After three years of research the best way to help farmers in Farrer is to have a minor party in power,” Mr Mills said. “In a book, which I sent to Sussan Ley, I asked to debate 25 questions.” One such question was how could Australia produce 100 times more than China in five years to balance the budget?
Ron Pike – Australian Liberty Alliance
“My whole policy is about supporting farmers and their communities,” Mr Pike said. “Only when our farmers have access to water, power, fuel, fertilizer and transport at world competitive prices can they be productive and prosperous. My plan will deliver this at no cost to treasury.”
Paul Rossetto – Christian Democratic Party
“By not supporting major party politics, the Christian Democratic Party (CDP) can affect change and improvement to raise Farrer, the food bowl of Australia, above party politics improving its health, wealth and well being,” Mr Rossetto said.
The plan to support farmers and their communities was a simple process, according to Mr Rossetto – punish Sussan Ley for voting for the 2007 Water Act and dysfunctional MDBP, by not voting for her.
