The church was due to be closed in June, but was thrown a lifeline by Bishop of the Riverina Rob Gillion after the community called for it to remain open. Following that Father Robert Murphy called on residents to have their say on when mass should be held at the church.
“It will now be the first Sunday of the month at 8am,” he said. “What we need now is for the people of Whitton to come out and support this time.
“They wanted to have the church remain open, so we would love for them to come on the first Sunday of the month.”
The first service will be held on Sunday. The church is also available to be used for christenings, weddings and other community events.
