Over the last 15 years, the Leeton teams have raised close to $300,000 between four cars.
Craig and Colleen Willis, Rox Thompson, Mick and Helen Collins and Arliss and Grant Willis left Sunday for Dubbo and the first leg of their adventure.
Craig Willis, his wife Colleen and Roz Thompson have participated from the very beginning and this year marks their 15th rally.
“In that time, potentially there have been four cars out of Leeton every year,” Mr Willis said.
“This year it goes from Dubbo across to Birdsville, and back to Noosa.
“It’ll take us 11 days. As the crow flies, it’s around about 2200 kilometres, as we go its around about 5500.”
The teams expect the terrain to pose some additional challenges this year.
“It’s going to be a lot of mud this year,” Mr Willis said.
“There’s been a lot of wet weather this year, certainly the northern areas have copped a lot of rain.
“We know there are a couple of roads closed already, but it’s not going to dampen our spirits.
“It doesn’t matter which way we go.
“We may not take the route that has been planned for us, but we’ll get there eventually.”
The teams hope to finish the rally in Noosa on September 8 before returning home to Leeton.
