The Greens need to win to keep their Group 20 season alive. 

Leeton captain-coach Brent Pike felt his side went into last week’s game a bit complacently.

“We were probably too relaxed,” he said.

“We knew that even if we lost last week we would still be playing this week.

“I think that was why we were not at our best.

“I have spoken to the boys and have ensured they are heading into this weekend’s game knowing that we only have one chance to get through.”

Pike believed it would take a simple formula to win on the weekend, but getting it right was easier said than done.

“Our defence has been a bit hit and miss so we need to make sure that is really working well on the weekend,” he said.

“Ball security has also been something that has let us down so we need to cut the silly mistakes out of our game.”

It is likely the Greens will be without several players thanks to injury concerns. 

However, Pike said Leeton would come out firing and ready to take on the Mallee Men.

West Wyalong are coming into the game with a luxury the side has not experienced often this season.

“We came out of last week unscathed,” West Wyalong co-coach Mark Wood said.

“That is great for us because the biggest issue we have had this season is being able to name the same team week in, week out.”

After finishing the season in fifth position the Mallee Men were able to see off the challenge of Darlington Point-Coleambally 26-18 last weekend.

Wood believed sticking to the fundamentals is key for his side.

“Backing up the work of our defence will be important for us,” he said.

"All we can do is hold Leeton out and it will come down to what the attacking side can do from there.

“Our biggest concern from Leeton is their half back Clint Halden.

“He has only played a couple of games for them. but he gives their side a lot of structure and direction on the park.”

The match will be played on Saturday at Darlington Point Sportsground at 3pm.
