According to Parkview Public principal Travis Irvin it has been some time since the school had so many representatives attend.
He said that was on top of the 18 students that took part at the recent Riverina PSSA Athletics Carnival.
Among those making their way to the state level is Shane Lloyd, who placed second in the junior boys shot put at the Riverina event.
Tamika Rourke was the Riverina champion in the junior girls shot put and will also be part of the junior girls 4x100-metre relay team.
Riley Bradshaw heads off to the next level of competition after being named the senior boys champion in discus and he was also third in shot put.
Shay Bandy, Kirsten Bradshaw and Jayda Sutton-Travers will be the remaining members of the 4x100-metre relay team.
“It’s definitely a really big effort from the kids,” Irvin said.
“For the relay in particular the girls have trained really hard for different aspects of their race, especially the baton handover.
“To have six students qualify is certainly one of the biggest contingents we’ve had from Parkview in some time.”
The state carnival will be held next term in Sydney on October 26 and 27.
All of the young competitors were looking forward to taking part.
Some said they would be spending their school holidays preparing for the event.
“I go for a run every day, so I’ll just keep doing that,” Riley said.
“I think it’s going to be hard in Sydney, but probably fun as well.”
Irvin said athletics was popular among students at the school and was pleased to see many developing their skills.
“I think it speaks a lot of Leeton’s Little Athletics organisation as well,” he said.
“They’ve done a really job in developing that talent and giving the kids an avenue for it.
“I think across all of the schools athletics is always popular among the kids. We’re proud of what our kids have achieved and look forward to more good results.”
