Wet weather in recent weeks has resulted in huge areas of water in outlying areas of Mark Taylor Oval, meaning Leeton Shire Council hasn’t been able to mow or spray the area.
Curators have also not been able to get the roller onto the pitch at the oval or at Yanco Sportsground.
LDCA chairman John Hill also believed this to be the case at Narrandera.
He said it was unlikely the A grade season would get underway as scheduled on October 8.
“It is yet to be decided,” Hill said.
“It’s really just too wet at the moment.
“The season could possibly be even delayed for a couple of weeks.
“Even when we do get the curators onto the pitches, I’d say when play does eventually start that they are going to be pretty damp for a while.
“That could result in some interesting games until it starts to dry out a bit.”
Hill was hopeful B and C grade would go ahead as scheduled on October 15.
A draw for the upcoming LDCA season will be finalised in the coming days.
This year there will be five teams in A grade, six in B grade and four in C grade.
Hill was looking forward to another competitive season.
“I think in A grade you'll find that it will be similar to last year,” he said.
“Yanco Cricket Club (YCC) and Narrandera will be up there again.
“In particular, Yanco. They’ve recruited quite well in the off season.”
YCC will also be fielding two teams in B grade for the second consecutive year.
The other big focus for the association this year will again be competing on the representative stage.
Last year the senior Wolves were able to win the O’Farrell Cup, defeating Griffith, only to lose it in the next challenge against West Wyalong.
West Wyalong are the current holders of the coveted cup, but Leeton will look to book in a challenge at the earliest possible date.
“I think we’re going to have a really strong (senior) rep team again this year,” Hill said.
“Last year we blooded some of our young juniors, so they will be better for the experience this season.
“The good thing is we’ve got guys actually putting their hand up and wanting to play rep now, rather than just being there out of obligation, which is really good.
“It’s a positive for the sport, for sure.”
