IT WAS more than just the typical story-time at the library recently when youngsters were able to get outside and take a spin on the Lions train.

This month’s story-time theme had a train theme, which was well received by the young participants and their parents.
It was one of the most popular story-time events this year, with dozens of people turning out to take part. Library assistant Leonie Murphy said each year one of the monthly sessions was either taken outdoors or given a special activity to encourage people to come along.
“Every second year we do the Bob the Builder theme, which involves council machinery and being outdoors,” she said.
“This year we’ve decided to get the Lions train on board to fit in with our train theme. It proved really popular.”
The session started off inside the library with singing and dancing, followed by the telling of a story or two.
The craft activity was to create and colour in a train ticket for the ride outside. The Leeton Lions Club donated the time of members and the use of the train.
“The whole aim was to encourage more people to come to story-time and the library,” Mrs Murphy said.
“The first session on the Tuesday wasn’t as big as Wednesday and Thursday … there was a post shared on social media that seemed to draw people in, which was good.
“Hopefully it means more people will start coming and be aware of the services we offer at the library. We certainly told people to come back and they were remarking about how great our library is.”
