The Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) have reviewed the Brobenah Road 60kmh speed zone and may consider changing it to 50kmh.
The 50kmh zone would be extended to Boronia Road.
Is this really necessary?
Leeton shire resident and business owner along the road Denis White disagrees to some extent.
He feels only a portion of the road could possibly be reduced down to 50kmh.
This seems the right way to go about things.
After all just up from his business is a childcare centre and also in the vicinity is the TAFE NSW Riverina Institute Leeton campus, so he has a point.
If a change has to be made, make it 50kmh in that area, but bring it back up to 60kmh by the time motorists reach the intersection of Karri and Catalpa roads.
Of course road safety is a crucial aspect of towns such as Leeton and across the country.
However, when organisations are contemplating changing speed zones or other road rules, it should also be necessary to consult those that regularly use these areas.
They are the ones that have the knowledge, the know-how and the experience using these areas.
Their feedback is crucial and essential.
It is certainly understandable that the RMS wants to improve road safety.
That’s something to be applauded.
However, it needs to be done in a way that is fair and achievable.
On the other side of the coin, motorists too need to play a part.
Regardless of whether or not the zone gets changed, motorists need to constantly be aware of their surroundings.
Not just for their own benefit, but for those around them.
Road safety is in the best interest of everyone and all motorists, pedestrians and stakeholders have a part to play.

ON A pleasant note, how fabulous was Light Up Leeton again this year?
In its 21st year, the event attracted more than 2500 people on Sunday, exemplifying once more just how great Leeton is.
Community events is what this town does best and hopefully that is something that will never change.
