The Euroley horseman pleaded guilty to being still involved in the industry while disqualified.
Painting was originally disqualified for two years and three months following a positive swab of one of his pacers in 2013.
That disqualification expired in February, but Painting was ordered to re-serve his penalty plus serve an additional year this week after stewards launched an inquiry in October.
HRNSW chief operating officer Reid Sanders said as a disqualified person Painting is required to remove himself from the sport.
“Once you are disqualified there is a reason you are disqualified and you are not to associate with people for the purpose of harness racing,” Sanders said. “You have to serve your time and stay away from the industry.
“Unfortunately this didn’t happen on this occasion.”
As it stands, Painting is disqualified until August 6, 2018.
His penalty was restarted from when stewards deemed he became involved in the sport again, May 6 last year.
Painting was also fined $1000 after pleading guilty to breaking rule 245 and assisting someone to engage in an improper practice and was found guilty of providing false or misleading evidence and fined a further $1000.
Coleambally trainer-driver Ellen Bartley has also been caught up in the investigation.
Bartley has been disqualified for six months, to start with immediate effect, after being found guilty of breaking rule 230 by associating with the disqualified Painting for purposes relating to the industry.
She was also fined $1000 for giving false or misleading evidence regarding the location of her mobile phone.
Owner John Pett was also banned for six months after breaking rule 230 and fined $1000 for giving false or misleading evidence while Painting’s mother Janet was fined $1000.
Bartley told The Daily Advertiser she is considering appealing the severity of the penalty while Painting did not respond to calls.
