A horrible loss to Hillston in the Hedditch Cup at Mark Taylor Oval was balanced with a memorable win over Hay in the Creet Cup in Hay on Sunday.
The sun shone down on the Leeton side in Hay on Sunday as the team locked on to for a battle leaving the home team victorious.
Off with a running start, Leeton’s bowlers effectively dismantled Hay one batsman at a time.
If Hay remembers one thing from the match it will be Matt Dedini claiming 6/20 in a quality bowling spell.
Hay only produced a single batsman in the match breaking into double digits.
In spite of Baird’s efforts in banking 15 runs, he was left high and dry by the remainder of his team.
Dionisio Pantano (2/15) and Lachlan McMaster (2/10) helped round off the effort for Leeton dismissing Hay from the field.
Now on the chase, Leeton went to work going after a mere 57 runs.
Leeton immediately set to work and hit back hard.
David Tiffin (15) and Nathan Lanham (15) set the high mark for the team.
Tiffin forged strong partnerships with several other batsmen to push the team to within striking range.
The chase ended with just a single wicket still in hand to end a memorable match.
Hedditch Cup
A difficult loss was endured by Leeton on Mark Taylor Oval leaving the side crumpled on the floor and glad the end had come.
Leeton batted first, but struggled to gain any ground.
John Gray (14*) hit the high mark for the team and was the only batsman to break into double digits.
Half of the line-up was left scoreless and apart from Gray, only two others broke more than five runs.
Hillston’s bowlers stopped Leeton in their tracks.
Before too long Leeton was all out, leaving Hillston the enviable task of chasing down just 44 runs.
Only three wickets fell before the total was reached.
Justin Kelly (2/6) and Jordan Camm (1/14) slowed the flow of blood, but the damage was already too great.
Leeton eventually fell to Hillston by seven wickets.
