The challenge navigating a school zone during the busy times of the day can be hectic and getting the little ones in and out difficult.
Parking usage in and around the schools is only at issue twice a day on school days and has left some people wondering about the availability of parking in relation to the demand.
Leeton High School principal Meagan Crelley appreciates the importance on properly educating children on traffic safety.
“Kids walking to and from the school along the road are always a risk,” Mrs Crelley said.
“That’s why it is so important to impress on children about the importance of safety.”
She also feels drivers should have extra caution in and around school zones.
“People really need to be aware and mindful that children are present,” she said.
Leeton High School is one of several schools in the area becoming congested with traffic from parents looking for a park to drop off children.
Parkview Public School principal Travis Irvin finds parking can be a bit of a struggle compounded by the concentrated road density within the Parkview neighbourhood.
“The number of connecting streets and the clearances around intersections around Parkview Public School limits parking,” Mr Irvin said.
“I’m not sure what can be done about it, I think people just need to find a place to park and be willing to walk.”
Leeton shire has been working on expanding its foot and bike paths and as such has offered better routes for children in and out of the areas.
“Leeton Shire Council have improved the pedestrian and cycle paths around the school,” Mr Irvin said.
“It’s created safe exits routes around the schools and we are grateful for what the council have done.”
Mr Irvin also addressed the importance of reinforcing the importance of traffic safety by teaching children safe practices around roads.
