Gotta Bewitched will start as one of the main chances in the $10,200 Nixons Engineering Wagga Cup Qualifier (2575m), where the first two over the line will book a place in the $30,000 feature race on March 4.
The four-year-old mare, purchased from New Zealand, has been a model of consistency for connections, returning 12 wins and 14 placings from her 30 career starts.
Gotta Bewitched has drawn gate two at Wagga and Eurell expects a typical strong display from his mare.
“She’s been racing good,” Eurell said.
“She races great all of the time, she’s very consistent and has a great record.
“Her last two starts were in M0s in Melbourne and Sydney, so she’s been racing tough competition.
“This is a pretty good field too, though, you could say it’s a good country M0, that’s my opinion of it but I’m sure the little mare won’t be too far away.”
Eurell hopes driver Bill Trembath will be able to find the front from the good gate.
“I’d like her to lead, she’s got good gate speed,” he said.
“Stening gets away fast, so he will probably go forward from the outside. John Scott (on Magicnracing) holds the key, being drawn gate one so we’ll have to see.”
Eurell found it difficult to single out one main danger and believes there is a number of chances in an open race.
“The three Hewitts are all good competitors and know how to place their horses,” he said.
“I think it’s a pretty tough race.”
There is uncertainty surrounding Stening’s place in the race after he ran fifth at Albury on Saturday night.
Junee trainer-driver Bruce Harpley indicated that Stening is unlikely to take his place in the field.
His scratching would give a start to the first emergency, Marrar pacer Killara Ninja.
