Obviously people lap up this sort of entertainment news and that is why every year millions tune in to watch the Oscars.
But really?
Someone made a mistake.
That mistake was eventually rectified.
This is life people.
No need to keep bringing it up day after day.
It's not as though someone accidentally blew up an orphanage - now that is something worth covering for many days.
That is real tragedy and heartbreak.
Calling out the wrong name for the best picture is not because at the end of the day, how many of us mere mortals are actually going to remember who won by this time next year?
A new crop of movies and another wave of celebrity fanfare will be at the doorstep, but you can bet your bottom dollar this so-called bungle is brought up again.
People out there can blame the media for this never-ending reporting of the incident, but everyone is to blame.
If news outlets were to cover the serious news day in and day out - the unfortunate fact is people would be switching off their televisions and clicking away from websites.
People want to know a little of the serious and then some of the light-hearted stuff as well.
It's almost a lose-lose situation as this is the world everyone now lives in.
Society is obsessed with celebrity and celebrities are obsessed with getting themselves out there (well, most of them anyway).
That is why there was a thought among many at the Oscars that the bungle was a stunt.
That's where everyone's minds first went.
Then of course President Donald Trump had to chime in because apparently the mistake happened because the host and award recipients were too busy being political and speaking against him, so that's why it happened.
This is the world everyone is now living in and we've only got ourselves to blame.
The question remains – how can this change?
It’s a tough one to answer, but maybe it’s time everyone moved away from celebrity and started focusing on issues that mean much more than this.
