That is the view of Leeton’s Kate O’Callaghan, who is the general manager at Southern Cotton. Mrs O’Callaghan will be one of four members of a panel at an upcoming conference in Leeton that will focus on cultivating female talent in the Riverina.
SunRice will be hosting the inaugural Riverina event for the National Association of Women in Operations (NAWO), which will also focus on leadership. Mrs O’Callaghan said it was essential women were viewed as a critical part of the work force no matter their industry.
“I’ve been working in the agricultural industry for more than 30 years now and during that time the thinking has changed,” she said.
“I remember when I first got into it people’s way of thinking was ‘oh that’s a boy’s job and that’s a girl’s job’. It is different now. I think what we need to do empower our young women to have the self belief and confidence that they can do anything they set their minds too.”
Mrs O’Callaghan will be joined on the panel by Leeton Shire Council general manager Jackie Kruger, Webster Limited financial controller Tracey Morris and SunRice site operations manager at Deniliquin Paul Scoullar.
Event attendees will also participate in a leadership workshop facilitated by Suzi Skinner, a multi-award winning Sydney-based leadership consultant who specialises in leadership development programs that focus on inspiring leadership at all levels.
The event will be held on March 21 from 1pm to 5pm at the Mia Club. Places are still available. Register at https://www.trybooking.com/260644.
