Police confirmed they were called to a residence where a 55-year-old man had suffered some stab wounds.
The man was admitted to Griffith Base Hospital and is in a stable condition.
A man has been arrested and is assisting police with their inquiries.
Griffith Mayor John Dal Broi said it was his understanding Mr Stonestreet would make a full recovery.
“The General Manager has had a personal incident, he will fully recover, he has been hospitalised and in the meantime we wish him and his family well,” Cr Dal Broi said.
“In the meantime I have appointed Max Turner as acting General Manager until such time as Mr Stonestreet resumes duties.”
