In the past few weeks Murrumbidgee Irrigation (MI) has worked in collaboration with Leeton Shire Council to clean up the entrance to Leeton High School Ovals.
This has been met with excitement from the various sporting groups across the region that use the facility.
The ovals regularly host local and regional sporting events for Little Athletics, Leeton Junior Rugby League, junior rugby union, Leeton Junior Cricket Association, Leeton and District Cricket Association, Leeton Touch Association and Leeton High School activities.
MI chief executive officer Brett Jones was happy to partner with council on projects such as this.
“We are part of the community and are more than happy to work together with council and user groups,” he said.
“All the sporting organisations who use the ovals are run by hard-working volunteers, and this is just one of the many great things about the community we live in.”
This project involved tree, vegetation and rubbish removal and the backfilling of an easement, with some of the user groups planning to further beautify the area in the coming months.
“The area is now a lot safer for the many children who use the facilities and it looks a lot better,” Mr Jones said of the work.
