With this in mind, the Leeton branch of Inner Wheel Australia will again be hosting a fundraiser to raise money and awareness of the benefits of cord blood.
The group’s cord blood co-ordinator Jenny Brumfield said more residents were becoming aware of the issue.
“Children with blood illnesses, in particular acute leukaemia, have been the main focus of cord blood research,” she said.
“The blood has helped many children with other operations and has been a life saver.
“The blood from the umbilical cord can be vital in treating many disease.”
The group has planned a street stall for Friday, April 28, in Pine Avenue, where a variety of sweets and treats will be available for purchase. There will also be merchandise items including pens, teddy bears, mouse pads and USBs.
“If anyone would like to make something that can be sold at the store that would be appreciated,” she said.
