Gazetted school days begin Monday, April 24, with school zones in operation from 8am to 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm with a speed limit of 40km/h.
Leeton Shire Council’s Road Safety Officer, Stephanie Puntoriero is asking drivers to be aware of school zone signs and to watch out for children.
“The first weeks of each school term can be particularly dangerous for children, as they may have forgotten how busy the traffic can be around their school,” she said.
“When driving near a school, stick to the 40km/h limit as children are about and can be unpredictable.”

Mrs Puntoriero has urged parents to be responsible with their children so they are aware of the dangers not just outside of school, but on all roads and should remember they are setting an example for their children.
NSW police will be targeting speeding, parking and other offences within school zones all of which attract increased fines and demerit points in these zones.
