Classic car lovers and rock-a-billy fanatics came together at Narrandera’s annual Hot Rod Run this month.
Of more than 350 entrants, it was 17-year-old L-plater Tegan Collet that sped away with the top prize.
Tegan’s step father, Ron Thomas, said he worked with his daughter to restore her 1931 A Model Ford before the pair travelled to the Riverina event for another year.
Mr Thomas said the niche interest in hot rods was often a family affair.
He said it was great to see younger girls and guys like his daughter and Young Rodder winner Bridget Jones carrying the flame.
When Tegan’s pick-up was announced as the Top Hot Rod, he said the tears may have been hay fever.
“She’s not your average girl,” Mr Thomas said.
“You couldn’t wipe the smile from her face.”
