The winter season began with over 200 children aged 4 to 15 years old signed up and ready to take to the field.
“It gives the the opportunity to run around and mix with other kids and get some exorcise,” said Leeton United club president Rod Harrison.
Leeton United Football Club has backed the juniors for years and their older jersey’s were in desperate need of replacement.
“These sponsors have enabled us to get rid of some shirts that are 15 to 20 years old,” Harrison said.
“Their support enables us to put money towards other resources like equipment and training.
“It’s a financial burden off the club.”
Thanks to the help of their many sponsors, the team received much needed donations that helped purchase 300 shirts to replace the aging shirts that are a staple of the Saturday morning warriors.
Club sponsor Brayden Scarr was pleased to be able to contribute to the efforts that teach children the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle.
“It’s good to be able to give back to the community,” Scarr said.
“It gets people out and involved in activities and brings people together.”
For Scarr, the contribution helps support an activity he participated as a child and he was glad to be able to pay it forward.
“Its nice weather now,” Scarr said.
“It gets them active and healthy and its better than sitting around playing xBox games.”
With the season only just starting, Harrison encouraged anyone interested in playing or looking for more information to come down to the town ovals on Saturday mornings during the games and stop by the canteen for more information.
