This week Member for Murray Adrian Piccoli urged businesses and organisations to play their part in attracting citysiders to town.
The NSW government’s regional growth – marketing and promotion fund allows these groups to apply for funding to do just that.
The shire has many positives in its favour, with Leeton’s Matt Gatt proof in the pudding a move from the city is worth it.
Mr Gatt lived in Leeton for a few years after turning 18, but was born and bred in Sydney.
He returned to the city and about 18 months ago decided with his wife it was time to come back to Leeton.
“Our son was about to start school and that, along with other factors, was why we came back,” Mr Gatt said.
“It’s something we haven’t regretted. The lifestyle is so good and there’s so many opportunities.
“We’ve made some fantastic friends since coming back. I always tell my friends in the city to move down here. Why wouldn’t you?”
Gino Amato from Amato Real Estate agreed and said it would also make economical sense.
“If the market is true to their word and you sell a property up there worth a million dollars and then come here and buy another for $350,000 to $500,000, not only do you have money left, but you’re getting a big house and probably more land,” he said.
Leeton Tourism’s Alison Egan said living in Leeton offered a relaxed lifestyle, while still having plenty to do.
“We’re also still easily accessible to the city,” she said. “It’s the way of life that draws people in.”
Councils, certain groups, businesses and chambers of commerce can apply for the funding to help attract city dwellers to town.
