If residents out there haven’t heard or may have forgotten, the Saudi Arabia football team refused to take part in a minute silence during their World Cup qualifier game with Australia on Thursday night.
This minute silence was being held in memory of those lives taken during the most recent London terror attack, including those of two young Australian women.
One of these young ladies hailed from South Australia, the very state the match was being played in.
For these players and their authorities to say they wouldn’t be taking back because it “wasn’t within their culture” or whatever lame excuse it was – that is absolutely pathetic.
This is not something that should be forgotten and it’s not something anyone should take lightly.
Everyone already knows, and it has been proven, that Saudi Arabia does sympathise with terrorists.
This blatant show of disrespect should be dealt with harshly.
In what way, I’m not sure, but can you imagine if Australia somehow disrespected a team such as Saudi Arabia how much flak they would be coping.
Of course they are getting grief at the moment from the Australian media and fans, but it needs to go much further.
If a humble football team can act in this manner, imagine what their governments can do.
It gives an insight into what these countries think about terrorism and it’s not good.
Of course Saudi Arabia is one of the countries to recently cut ties with Qatar recently for the very purpose of their belief that country supports terrorists. That is definitely a good step in the right direction, but surely in the case of where people have been murdered their football team can stand still for one minute and reflect on that.
This is people’s lives being cut down and in the most horrific way. It’s something we should all be reflecting on no matter our religion or race because surely we should all be praying for a world at peace.
Now, many know this is never going to be possible, but we need to be able to live in harmony and respect each other. While they have apologised, it’s still not good enough and doesn’t take away their actions and the hurt caused.
