THE junior Phantoms took to Jubilee Ovals in Griffith last weekend for the third round of Southern Inland Junior Rugby competition.

A good day of rugby was had by all with all junior Phantoms sides showing good sportsmanship and strength across the paddock.
Phantoms will host the next round at the high school ovals on Sunday, June 18.
The Leeton community are all welcome to come and view grass root rugby at its best from sides across the Riverina and cheer on Leeton junior Phantoms. Food will be available all day from the canteen.
The under 14s took to rugby paddock underdogs against a formidable Tuskers outfit sitting at top of the table.
The match started at a quick pace, the forwards dug in for a battle up the middle of the field.
Dan James and Tommy Ray worked hard in attack and defence, pressuring the Tusker side.
Jesse Weeks opened the scoring with lightning speed off a balanced backline move.
Zac Manwaring and Angus Gregory kept the Phantoms pointing towards the try line to help a 39 to 14 victory over the front runners of the competition.
The 14s second game was against a strong Young side. Both sides tested each other across the field, the rucks were fierce with the Phantoms holding strong at the breakdowns.
The Yabbies scored one try in the first half off a line out close to the line.
The backs had a lot of one on one defence as young pushed the side lines at every chance, making the Phantoms work hard.
The second half seen the Phantoms push Young down the paddock.
A team try seen the Phantoms even the score to 7-all midway in the half with the forwards pushing over after the backs positioned the ruck close to the line.
The Yabbies scored at full-time after a tremendous battle, the Phantoms put in a solid effort across the field and are shore to put in a bigger effort in Leeton next round.
VIVAS UNDER 16
THE Viva U16s Girls played two hard fought games against Young and Tumut.
The first game against Young saw a fast paced open game of rugby resulting in plenty of tries.
Good work from Zoe Locke and Sophie Anthony provided space for Sarah Allen to score in the middle. While Felicity Allen and Jenna Elliot were tough to handle out wide putting on some nice tries; Leeton wining 8-6.
The second game against Young was on a much smaller field.
Good defensive efforts from Marnie Elliot resulted in good field position enabling Shakiah Byrnes to dummy and score centre field.
Two incepts to Jenna Elliot with Tumut hot on attack was the difference with Leeton winning 6-5.

THE fog lifted and provided a glorious day of rugby as the Leeton under 16 Viva 7s side travelled to Albury for a day of rugby and shopping.
The team played two hard fought games against two tenacious Griffith sides.
The first game saw Leeton come away with a 4 -1 win with a solid defensive line lead by Zoe Locke making scoring difficult for Griffith.
Leeton got off to a great start with a runaway try to Sarah Allen as she stepped through the defence and ran the length of the field.
Sophie Anthony showed good game awareness to sneak over for a cleaver try before offloads behind the line found space for Jenna Elliot who showed blinding speed down the sideline.
The second game was another win to the Leeton Side as they ground out a tough 3-2 victory in a free flowing affair.
Lauren young showed good skill to beat the defence for the first try.
Leeton pounced on a loose ball for a runaway try before Jenna Elliot sealed the victory with her second try of the day.
Marnie Elliot impressed with the ball in hand in only her first appearance for the team and looks a real talent.
UNDER 7s
OUR first game today was against the Young Yabbies. They were a very skilled team however the kids stepped up to the challenge passing the ball well and running forward gaining some fantastic metres. It was a 30 all draw.
Our second game was played against Grenfell. Both teams played very well with Aiden, Annabelle and Dakota's confidence is growing every week.
Corbin went over for two tries along with Indie and Braxton scoring several each. Exodus and Blake played some excellent attacking footy with an amazing side step.
It ended up being a 35-all draw with Grenfell.
