For Tuesday night’s grand final showdown between the Hawks and the Tigers, the Hawks’ Marg Eckley came out of the blocks fighting, taking an early lead which was never in doubt, and defeating Tahlia Taylor 3-0.
Emily Jennings fought hard in her match against Callum Ryan but Ryan was too good on the night, defeating Jennings 3-1. In the decider, Tigers captain Jason Curry brought his team home to victory defeating Liam Ryan.
Thursday night grand finals saw the Mariners defeat the Victory 2-1 with wins to Angelo Fiumara and Maanu Alexander over Dion DeMamiel and Col Thompson. Both Alexander and Fiumara looked impressive but didn’t always have it all their way.
The only victory for the Victory went to newcomer David Croucamp over Kelsey Deeves.
The Brumbies and Waratahs played off for Wednesday night honours with the Brumbies proving too strong. Ryan Mahalm defeated Matt Piper 3-0, and in a close match between Cooper Boardman and Sarah Quinlivan, Boardman held on to his nerve to defeat Quinlivan 3-1. The only win for the Waratahs went to the ever reliable Jackson Goman, defeating sub Michelle Quinlivan 3-0.
Monday nights’ grand final was played out between the Broncos and the Rabbitohs. After a close encounter with the wall, Kira Brettschneider went onto defeat her opponent Declan Ryan to give the Rabbitohs the early lead. Broncos Roy Bandy had little trouble disposing of sub Carol Davidson in the second match leaving all the pressure on the Captains to fight to victory. Broncos Jack Quinlivan had his eye on the prize when he defeated Rabbitohs Rob Hanlon 3-0.
At presentations, newcomer David Croucamp was awarded as a 100 percenter for the comp, and youngsters Declan Ryan and Dakota Boardman were awarded most improved male and female.
The Winter competition, which commenced Tuesday, will again see strong numbers and a new scoring system leading into the Club Championships in September.
