IF LEETON’S George Weston was looking to find more spare time, it’s unlikely that will happen any time soon.

Mr Weston will spend the next 12 months as the Rotary 9700 district governor, an area which covers everywhere from Bathurst and Orange, Henty, Wagga, Leeton, Griffith and more.
To become a district governor is no small feat.
“I was asked if I would like to put my hand up, so I had a think and I did,” Mr Weston said.
“After that you’ve have to be interviewed by a panel.
“I love being part of Rotary and I’m looking forward to getting out and meeting new people across our district.”
Mr Weston was formally inducted to the role during the Rotary Club of Leeton’s annual changeover dinner.
He has been a Rotary member for 35 years and said it had been one of his best decisions in life to join.
Mr Weston is also Leeton shire’s deputy mayor, owns his own business and is part of a variety of community groups and organisations.
When asked how he was going to fit the new role in, Mr Weston said it would be easy.
“I love getting up early and getting things done … you just make room,” he said.
“I’ll be travelling across the district to the clubs over the next 12 months where I’ll be checking in, seeing what they are up to and providing leadership and fellowship.
“It'[s also great because at one club they might be doing something where you can then take that idea to another and get a project happening.”
Rotary clubs across the country and world have contributed much to modern society. Internationally, the organisation has almost completely eradicated polio in every country.
As part of his role, Mr Weston will also have the opportunity to attend Rotary’s international conference in Canada.
He has always had an interest in many Rotary projects. Twice he has been the chairman of the district youth exchange program, been to youth camps and events, as well as facilitating initiatives in East Timor and at a local level.
“Rotary is for everyone … we are making a difference,” Mr Weston said. “I really want to get that message out there this year.”
