The running of the miniature trains at the Yanco Powerhouse Museum was as popular as ever, but participants also remembered the late Lorraine Ward at the same time. 

Mrs Ward was a pioneer in having the miniature trains at the museum and helped to ensure there was a strong future for young children and their families to enjoy the monthly rides. 

A memorial run was held in her honour recently, which also doubled as a fundraiser to help raise money to extend the train track that winds all around the museum and its ground. 

Committee president Terry Ward described the event as a huge success, with about 190 residents turning out for rides on the day. 

“The event was certainty a success, (but) I think the very cold weather kept a lot of people away,” Mr Ward said.

The money raised from these events means the tracks are receiving a 700-metre upgrade, which Mr Ward hoped to have completed by Easter next year.

“The Lorraine Ward Memorial Run is helping to fund our extension and we managed to save enough that we could do it now,” he said.

”We are also using left-over steel from when we first opened up.”

Many residents have riden on the miniature trains and it provides the perfect day out for families, especially when the monthly rides coincide with the Yanco markets.
