Daffodil Day, a national day of hope for a cancer-free future, will take place on August 25.

Leeton shire residents have been urged to take part to their bit in stamping out cancer. 

Community members can do so by volunteering, buying merchandise or making a donation.

Brianna Carracher from the Cancer Council NSW said while it was important to support the event, it was also vital to remember there was hope. 

“This year marks 31 years of Daffodil Day in NSW,” she said. 

“As one of the largest national fundraising event in the Southern Hemisphere, this year Cancer Council hopes to raise $2.1 million in NSW.

“In the Murrumbidgee region alone, it is estimated about 1729 people will be diagnosed with cancer in a single year. 

“By supporting Cancer Council NSW this Daffodil Day, people will be helping to beat cancer by funding vital cancer research, support services, prevention programs and advocacy campaigns.”

The theme for Daffodil Day this year is “for someone I know”.

This means residents taking part will be showing support for someone they know and as a result can help beat cancer and create a better, cancer-free future for all.

Leeton’s Beyond Bank is one business set to take part and will be selling merchandise within the branch to raise funds for the Cancer Council.
