There may be even more for them to have a slight jealously over this year thanks to a grand plan being thought about by Light Up Leeton organisers.
A sub-committee has been formed to facilitate having the large tree at the bottom of Chelmsford Place lit up during the festive season.
Traditionally, the shire’s festive spirit kicks off on the first weekend in December when Light Up Leeton is held and the bright idea would go hand-in-hand.
In the past, the tree has had fairly lights sprinkled through it, but the committee is hopeful of buying coloured festoon lights to really give it some pizzazz.
While the festive season may be the furthest thing from residents mind, with it now being “Christmas in July” there’s no better time to start preparing, according to Light Up Leeton chairman.
“I don’t think there’s anyone out there that starts putting their lights up now, but there’s certainly some that do put in a month or two of effort before our Christmas carnival,” he said.
“We’re certainly starting to look towards Light Up Leeton.
“We’ll be holding our first meeting next month to prepare. They are usually monthly to start with and then fortnightly as it gets closer.
“It’s definitely worth putting out there now that we’d love some new members or helping hands on the day.
“It’s such a great event for this town.”
Mr KIng said the idea to light up the pine tree had been in the works for some time.
He said Leeton Shire Council was open to the idea and was hopeful other community groups would come on board to help cover costs.
“We’ve got money ourselves to put towards it, but we may need a bit more,” Mr King said.
“The idea would be to obviously have it lit up for Christmas, but to also have an easy design so the lights could be used in the same for things like the SunRice Festival and the Art Deco Festival.
“It would really liven up that main street area.”
Those wanting to have a stall or participate in the community concert as part of Light Up Leeton can contact Mr King for more information.
He was hopeful even more homes would light up in 2017.
“It would be good to see more homes have lights up … it really is something Leeton is known for,” Mr King said. “People of all ages love it.”
