David Manchon from the Rooftop Express Show has signed on to take part in Leeton’s event on the Friday night.
Typically, Mr Manchon only performs at “royal” shows such as those in Sydney, the Ekka in Brisbane and other metropolitan events.
“We are so thrilled to be able to secure this … we found out he would be coming through Leeton on the way to the Royal Geelong Show and we’ve been able to lock him in,” Leeton Show Society secretary Vanessa Jennings said.
Rooftop Express is filled with Australiana comedy, awe-inspiring horsemanship and thrilling stunts.
The society is also spending more money on this year’s fireworks display, which promises to be a highlight many should pencil in to their diary.
“The fireworks are always one of my favourite parts of the show,” Mrs Jennings said.
“It’s something everyone loves and we’re really excited about this year’s display.”
The society is also focusing on this year’s pavilion activities, including craft, cooking and other competitions in a bid to showcase the skills of residents in the shire.
Sponsorship from businesses is still being sort to assist in prize money for competitors.
“It’s important to point out that sponsorship money is used for the winners of those events … it won’t be going to anyone else,” Mrs Jennings said. As a young girl growing up in Leeton, Mrs Jennings always looked forward to the show every year.
“I remember one of my friends lived in Kooba Street and we would all meet there and walk over to the showground together … it would inevitably turn into a sleepover,” she said.
“As the mother of teenagers I’m very aware of the need to put on an event that appeals to everyone and is fun for the whole family. That’s what the society is trying to do again this year.”
Memberships are now due for those wanting to get that added discount when it comes to the event and the society is always looking for new people to lend a hand.
“We’ve got a fabulous, young committee who loves putting on the show,” Mrs Jennings said.
