With that in mind, the Leeton Show Society is now calling for entrants for this year’s Showgirl competition.
Every year the initiative is part of shows across the country, with the town winner then going on to the zone finals.
The finals continue until finalists vie for the state Showgirl title at the Sydney Royal Easter Show next year.
Each year the Leeton Showgirl competition aims to have at minimum four young ladies taking part.
Society secretary Vanessa Jennings said it was a great opportunity to represent Leeton shire.
“It’s a great experience, even if you aren’t named the winner on the night,” she said. “It would be great if there were young ladies out there interested in taking part for them to get in touch with our co-ordinator Melina Mandaglio.
“You get to meet many new people, especially if you do happen to win and go on to the next level. Past winners have all spoken about making friends for life.
“It would be great to have as many young women involved as possible.” To take part, entrants need to have a general understanding of their town, agriculture and current affairs.
A cocktail evening is typically held beforehand where entrants are judged before the announcement of the winner and runner-up on the Friday night of the show. Every year there are also junior categories for boys and girls. Those nominations aren’t required until the show gets underway.
